Question: Do you still recommend Jiaogulan for laminitic horses. If so, could you recommend protocols or share your insights for its use on acute, subacute and chronic laminitic cases. I have not used it for years because I could not find good product. I see that Ukele has the herb sold by itself.

Dr. Kellon:  Out of an abundance of caution, I don't use it the first 3 to 7 days; until bounding pulses are controlled. Part of the reason for the high pulses is obstruction to blood flow from tissue edema. I don't want to add to that pressure by encouraging high blood flow.  Use Phyto-Quench or Devil's Claw to control pain and inflammation during that time.
Beyond that, use 2 to 5 grams twice a day.  It works best when given as a "snack" before feeding. Check gum and tongue color.  When it reaches a more obvious pink color the dosage is correct.
