Question: I have a 7 year old Percheron Gelding that has some serious anxiety. He is very jumpy even when someone just simply pets him he jumps. Under harness he is much better. We have given him 1 large bucket of the Seroquine (as we have had 2 half-drafts in the past with some similar tendencies and it worked wonders). This time it has taken the slightest edge off, but still jumps when you pat him and takes us about 20 minute to catch him (rather than the 45 that we started at). Would you suggest sticking with the Seroquine or trying one of the other calming supplements?

Dr. Kellon: If you are already giving him a dose that is weight appropriate, which is at a minimum 1.5 times the usual dose, if not twice, I would try adding more Taurine up to a total of 20 to 30 grams.  Uckele also sells plain Taurine as a supplement.
It's also always a good idea to ask your veterinarian to do a careful check of vision and hearing.  Problems there make for a very jumpy horse.
