Question: My 19 year old miniature horse has recently been diagnosed with mild RAO after examination by his veterinarian. His symptoms include scant clear nasal drainage, cough with eating and noted increased abdominal movement with breathing. I have begun sprinkling his hay and grain with water and changed his bedding to a less dusty product. He is also turned out daily. His cough seems to have already decreased with these changes. I am wanting to feed him a supplement which will help support and increase his respiratory health. I recently purchased Lung EQ but am now questioning if this is safe to feed daily or if it is actually more for episodes of increased symptoms. Please advise. Dr. Kellon: Lung EQ is safe for regular use. I would start him on 1/2 scoop twice a day. If symptoms abate, try 1/2 scoop once a day.
