Acetyl-L-Carnitine may help with your horse's neurological issue
Question: I have a five-year-old Connemara that experienced neurological problems and lameness. I presently have him on 10,000 units of vitamin E and wondering if he should also be on amino acids? Bloodwork is fine selenium level is fine. Did spinal tap 40 p.m. and lime which was negative. No known cause of injury.
Dr. Kellon: If he had normal muscle bulk on your diet before these issues started you probably don't need amino acids in general but acetyl-l-carnitine enhances nerve regeneration and would be worth feeding at 1 g/100 lbs of body weight.
